This has been asked many times around the net but I've yet to find a suitable answer. I have thousands of photos and currently I use Picasa Photo Viewer when viewing photos in Win 10 Explorer. It's (IMO) an excellent, non-intrusive & very fast way to view my pics.
You don't need to open any application other than Explorer, just set Windows to use Photo Viewer as a default. It will also slideshow your photo folder and zoom in & out using just the mouse wheel. Although Picasa has a photo organiser and editor I never use them, preferring Lightroom, Bridge & Photoshop. But now I hear that Google is retiring it in favour of Google+ which is a totally different thing.

Yes, so is Picasa but I only ever use the stand-alone Photo Viewer. So Photos is the answer I was looking for. Now, all I need to find is a method of changing the slideshow speed (something that Picasa Photo Viewer lacked). Thank you all for your help.
How to install the latest version • Check your version of Picasa by going to Help > About Picasa • In the 'About Picasa' box under the Picasa logo is the version and build number • If your version is earlier than the final version 3.9.141 build 259, do the following: • Locate the latest version of Picasa.exe file (see section above) and run the installer over your previous version • You don't need to first uninstall your present Picasa version • The installation process will find the existing Picasa database and photos on your computer. • Your photos exist on your computer and will not be harmed or lost during an installation • If Picasa fails to install, then uninstall your present version, go to Tools > Options > General tab. Under Automatic Updates, change to 'Don't check for updates' then click OK. Install the latest version of Picasa.
