I had a similar problem after going to Windows 10 with software that came with a Tasco USB microscope. I found an easy workaround using IP Camera Viewer 3 (Free - ). It supports both USB web cam and IP network based cameras. To capture snapshots, I put the viewer in full screen mode and use Wisdom Soft Screen Hunter screen capture software.

Deskshare.com also has a non-free Security Monitor Pro software that can do recording etc. I am not affiliated with either company - was just frustrated that I was looking at throwing away the Tasco Microscope until I happened across this solution.
